The cybersecurity community converges in Bern this morning as Swiss Cyber Storm 2025 kicks off at Kursaal Bern. Under the compelling theme “Resilience in a Mad, Mad World,” this year’s edition marks a significant evolution for Switzerland’s premier IT security conference, introducing fresh formats alongside its signature analytical approach to complex security challenges.

Now in its second decade, Swiss Cyber Storm has established itself as the definitive platform where Switzerland’s security agenda takes shape. Unlike many security gatherings that concentrate solely on vulnerability disclosures, Swiss Cyber Storm has built its reputation on contextualizing threats within broader frameworks and delivering actionable solutions to persistent structural security challenges.

Here’s what attendees can expect:

  • Keynote addresses & expert talks: International-level speakers will tackle big questions — how do we build cyber-resilience in an era of rapid change, how do we turn vulnerability into strength, and how do we stay one step ahead of threat actors.
  • The “AI Village” experience: This year brings a new addition: the AI Village, a co-located event within the conference that features hands-on workshops, demos, poster sessions and interactive problem-solving desks. Ideal if you prefer engaging activity over passive listening.
  • Networking with a purpose: With delegates spanning the spectrum — from young cyber-talent to seasoned security leaders — the event is not just about content but also about connecting, exchanging ideas and forging collaborations.
  • Practical, solution-oriented content: Unlike conferences that simply list threats, Swiss Cyber Storm focuses on putting vulnerabilities into context and delivering actionable steps for organizations, teams and individuals to enhance resilience.
  • Special tracks & workshops: Whether you’re into the management side (governance, risk, strategy) or the tech side (detection, response, AI in security), there’s a tailored path for you. Example: one session will explore cloud-native detection systems using platforms like Microsoft Sentinel.

For those attending: bring your questions, your business-card (or digital contact swap) and an open mind. With the focus on resilience, expect themes like assume-breach strategies, agile incident response, AI threat-models, and how to future-proof your organization in a chaotic cyber landscape.

Whether you’re there to dive deep into code and detection or to join high-level leadership discussions, this edition of Swiss Cyber Storm promises rich content and meaningful connections.

Mark Barwinski Opens With Keynote on Navigating Uncertainty

Former NSA veteran and cybersecurity executive Mark Barwinski delivers the opening keynote titled “Resilience in a mad, mad world,” setting the stage and providing the foundation for the rest of the day. Barwinski brings over 22 years of leadership experience spanning financial services, professional consulting, manufacturing, and government intelligence, including his role as former Global Head of Cyber Operations at UBS where he spearheaded security strategies and enhanced detection capabilities through machine learning.

His keynote examines how security teams can build operational resilience when familiar patterns break down and prediction becomes increasingly challenging. Barwinski began his career at the NSA, where he played a pivotal role in offensive and defensive cyber operations, with work extending across multiple continents and two voluntary deployments to Afghanistan advising military leadership on securing high-risk operations.
